What's the Deal With TOMS?

TOMS shoes... you may or may not have heard of them, but I can guarantee that you've seen them. They are everywhere. They could be called a foot's best friend.
All TOMS are created with the same basic design. A unisex slip-on canvas shoe. But really, it's the varying fabrics that make the shoes unique. These stylish shoes come in various prints, patterns, and colors...making it possible to express your individuality despite the common design of the shoe itself.
But what makes these shoes so special?
With every pair that is purchased, a pair of shoes will be given to a child in need. Who wouldn't want to be a part of something this great? Already, over 140,000 pairs of shoes have been given away because of a consumer's single purchase.
Check out the website at: http://www.tomsshoes.com/
Yes. Some have called these shoes overpriced considering what they are, but keep in mind that you are technically purchasing two pairs!

A New Song

My song for the day...

Apocalypse Lullaby by the Wailin' Jennys.

Have you heard it? That's what I thought. While the Wailin' Jennys aren't on the top 10 Songs list on iTunes, this group has got some raw talent. The lead singer, Cara Luft, was recently replaced by Annabelle Chvostek. Annabelle has a very smooth, soothing voice that makes me want to lie in a meadow and relax all day. This song is worth checking out if you're in need (or are open to) some new music. This Canadian group's album, titled Firecracker, could be safely called folk with a bit of pop flair. So sit back, relax, and soak up the sweetness in this relaxing lullaby. Enjoy my friends!

Always listening.

Julie and Julia... Fabulous Feast or Burnt to a Crisp?

Bon Apetit! Julie and Julia hit the box office on August 7th, 2009. The first time I went to see it, it was a 10:10 pm showing... I didn't make it. I officially learned that I'm not one for late night movies. I managed to make it through the first 45 minutes or so, but I was totally zonked from then on. You can imagine how discontent I was leaving the theater that night. So, a couple of days later, I met up with a friend who hadn't seen it, and made it the whole way through . It was on this day that I discovered the extreme contrast of feelings I had towards this film. If you are yet to see this movie, I would stop reading here. I'm about to reveal plot details! (Bottom line: See the movie, despite little...glitches here and there. You'll be glad you did.)
First of all, may I point out that the acting in this movie is fabulous. With Meryl Streep as Julia and Amy Adams as Julie, the casting job was top of the line.
I love the idea of two women living in different time periods, sharing a love of food. It's a very fresh storyline, and the fact that it's covers two true stories in one movie without being too confusing deserves some props. I might also note that the food prepared in this film looked so delicious that I wanted to jump right into the movie and dig in.
Okay. I know it's a true story and all, but did they HAVE to include the detail about how Julia Child disliked Julie so much? I mean, talk about a downer. Here we are at the end of the movie, feeling elated at the fact that Julie completed her challenge to herself... and Julia Child steals that joy at the very last minute. The whole movie, Julia was displayed as a very good natured (a little eccentric, but still.) people loving person, and then reality hits. I could go on and on about this movie, but I won't, for your sake. Have a great day. If anyone is reading this at all. Is anybody out there?

Yours truly,
Lanie

Boho World

Bohemian-inspired fashion is all over the place. This style particularly interests me because I believe it all started because of the recession. Think about it...while it's very possible to break the bank when shopping for a boho-style ensemble, it's not entirely necessary. This trend definitely works as an advantage for fashion-savvy females being affected by the struggling economy. They can save money without sacrificing style!...And who wouldn't want that?
For those of you who have been living under a rock, (forgive me, I'm a sarcastic individual.) here are a few examples of the bohemian trend.
[[Big bags, oversized sunglasses, skinny jeans, fringe, vests, shirt-dresses... bohemian fashion says "effortless".]]
